Strictly Come Dancing pro Nikita Kuzmin has revealed that he still has some family members back in Ukraine who are unable to leave the country.

The 24-year-old, who hails from Ukraine, previously managed to get his grandmother safely out of the country around a month after the Russian invasion began.

Several other relatives are still living in his homeland, however, as medical conditions mean that they are unable to leave.

"It's quite heartbreaking and overwhelming with emotions. I never thought I could feel this way about my country," Kuzmin told Loose Women.

"When you have family and friends there and you grew up there and you see the streets one which you've been walking as a kid just bombed, and bombarded, and unfortunately people died."

Talking about his relatives, he added: "We are not able to take them out because of health conditions, so it's constantly on my mind.

"I don't want to make it about myself, it's nothing about me, it's about the heroes who are defending our country. It's all about them, so I'm just praying to god that this is going to end soon."

Around 14 million Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes since the war started, with around 6 million safely leaving for other countries and a further 8 million displaced within the country itself.
