Famed astrologist Mystic Meg had died at the age of 80 after a short illness.

The star - real name Margaret Lake - wrote daily horoscopes for The Sun for almost 23 years and also had a weekly segment on The National Lottery show in the 1990s.

According to The Sun, she was admitted to hospital in London last week with the flu and died in the early hours of this morning.

"Without any question, she was Britain's most famous astrologer by a million miles," said Dave Shapland, her agent of 34 years.

"Nobody came close to Meg in that respect. She was followed by millions in this country and also around the world.

"She even became part of the English language - if a politician, somebody from showbiz or ordinary people in the street are asked a tricky question they will say 'Who do you think I am, Mystic Meg?'

"It shows what an impact she made."

Meg had continued writing horoscope columns up until her death, with her most recent being published today.
