Anne Heche is fighting for her life in a coma after getting involved in a car crash in Los Angeles on Friday.
The 53-year-old actress spent over an hour in the burning wreckage of her vehicle after it crashed into a house while a team of 59 firefighters battled the resulting blaze which engulfed the building.
Heche's publicist initially said that she was in a "stable" condition in hospital but she has now been upgraded to "extreme critical" and is in a coma.
"At this time Anne is in extreme critical condition," the rep told Deadline.
"She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.
"She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident."
The Los Angeles Police Department are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident.
