Comedian Gilbert Gottfried has died after "a long illness" at the age of 67, his family has announced.
In a comedy career spanning back to the 1970s, Gottfried gained a reputation for his long, often crude jokes delivered with his unique, exaggerated voice.
Among Gotffried's roles was the voice of the parrot Iago in 1992's Aladdin, as well as the headmaster and comic foil in the cult Problem Child movies.
In a statement on social media, Gottfried's family said: "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness.
"In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children.
"Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor."
Gottfried was not widely known to be ill ahead of today's announcement.
