Billie Piper admits that she would change Rose Tyler's ending in Doctor Who, having "struggled" with the twist.

Billie Piper has admitted that she "struggled" with her character Rose Tyler's ending in Doctor Who.

In the season four episode 'Journey's End', Rose was deposited safely in a parallel universe by David Tennant's Tenth Doctor - alongside a cloned, albeit human, version of himself.

The twist meant that showrunner Russell T Davies delivered a happy ending of sorts for Rose, who was able to see out her days with a version of The Doctor that aged alongside her, but Piper has now said that she would have preferred Rose to have the real thing.

Asked by Buzzfeed what she would change from her time on the show, Piper replied: "Oh my God, for sure, the Doctor Who ending where I go off with the second Doctor instead of the real Doctor to the parallel universe.

"It's not a criticism of Russell T Davies, because he is the master, but I struggled with that. Mainly because the second Doctor is less good than the real one!"

Davies has previously touted the idea of a Rose spinoff series - a possibility that could be back on the cards following the BBC's deal with Disney+ - and Piper has confirmed that she would be keen to take part.

"If it was shot in London!" she added. "There's a running theme here, I don't want to work much.

"If it was like four episodes all shot in London, then yeah, I'd be like a rat-up-a-drainpipe for that."

Since her departure from the show, Piper has continued to play the character of Rose in a series of audio novels for Big Finish.
