Sky Arts director Phil Edgar-Jones is given an OBE for services to the arts and television.

Sky Arts head Phil Edgar-Jones has been awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours for services to the arts and television.

During 10 years at Sky, the executive has overseen the transformation of Sky Arts into a free-to-air service broadcasting programmes in the genres of music, theatre, literature and dance 24/7.

Edgar-Jones previously worked at Endemol, overseeing Big Brother during its Channel 4 heyday, and also has shows such as The Big Breakfast, The Priory and The Word on his CV.

"It's a particular kind of honour to be recognised for doing something you love," he said.

"I am privileged to be able to collaborate with incredible artist talents across the spectrum of the arts alongside our brilliant team at Sky.

"We are passionate about the power and importance of arts and culture, not just to enrich our lives, but also as an economic force. This award is the cherry on top of a very lovely cake."

Other honours awarded include knighthoods for Brian May and Grayson Perry, while Anne Diamond, Stephen Graham and David Harewood earn OBEs.
