Outspoken Aussie Nick Kyrgios joins Eurosport's commentary team for this year's Australian Open.

Outspoken Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios has joined Eurosport's commentary lineup for this year's Australian Open.

The first of the year's Grand Slams begins this Sunday in Melbourne, with 28-year-old Kyrgios unable to participate due to a knee injury.

Instead Kyrgios will provide commentary for key matches for Eurosport and discovery+ alongside the likes of John McEnroe, Laura Robson and Barbara Schett throughout the tournament, with viewers also able to watch him live in the commentary booth via a dedicated stream on discovery+.

Scott Young, head of content at WBD Sports Europe, said: "We first delivered the Australian Open under the Eurosport brand in 1995 and this year's tournament promises to be one of the best yet, packed with so many inspiring stories and battles that fans can follow every step of the way across our channels and platforms. No other broadcaster provides a 360-degree tennis ecosystem that connects tennis fans to the sport they love like we do.

"To enhance the storytelling like never before, we've assembled one of the most impressive expert line-ups of tennis legends and superstars.

"We're particularly excited to welcome Nick Kyrgios to our English language commentary team this year and know fans will benefit from his unique perspectives and closeness to the current crop of champions and competitors taking to the court this year."

The defending champion at Melbourne Park is Novak Djokovic, who will be aiming to emulate his own record of ten titles at the iconic venue.
