DAZN announces that it will be quadrupling its subscription prices following a deal to secure the rights to Matchroom Boxing fights.

Sports streaming service DAZN has announced a price hike for customers in the UK and Ireland starting from next month.

The news comes after the broadcaster concluded a deal to poach the rights to Matchroom Boxing fights from Sky, making DAZN the exclusive home for names including Josh Warrington and Katie Taylor.

Currently available for a price of £1.99 a month, DAZN will cost £7.99 a month - a four-fold increase - effective from September 30. Irish subscriptions will rise from €1.99 to €7.99 a month from the same date.

"I genuinely believe the price rise will be welcomed by fight fans as on average the expectation was somewhere around £9.99," DAZN's evp of revenue innovation Joe Markowski told Sport Business.

"We believe we can build a very healthy, economically sound business based on the data we've seen at this price point."

DAZN currently streams around 32 fight nights a year in the UK and Ireland and also has the rights to the UEFA Women's Champions League.
