Result: Team England's Chris Latham claims scratch race bronze

Team England's Chris Latham picks up a bronze medal in the men's 15km scratch race at the Commonwealth Games as hosts Australia claim gold.

Team England cyclist Chris Latham has picked up a bronze medal in the men's 15km scratch race at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 24-year-old finished behind Australian Sam Welsford and Campbell Stewart of New Zealand in the final event of the evening at the Anna Meares Velodrome, but did ensure that England had a place on the podium when he crossed the line in third place.

Latham was the best-placed of the three England competitors, although both Oliver Wood and Ethan Hayter were not far behind as they finished in fourth and fifth respectively.

It was Australia who were left celebrating another Velodrome victory, though, with Welsford leading much of the way to give the hosts their seventh cycling gold of the Games - two of which Welsford has been involved in having also been part of the 4000m team pursuit.

Stewart won silver, meanwhile, but it was a disappointing race for Scotland as Mark Stewart, John Archibald and Kyle Gordon finished in seventh, eighth and 11th respectively.

Only 17 of the 24 riders to enter the race crossed the finish line, with the rules dictating that a rider is eliminated once he is lapped by the peloton.
