England's Craig Overton and Australia's Mitchell Starc will both miss the fourth Ashes Test match in Melbourne through injury.

England fast bowler Craig Overton has been ruled out of the fourth Ashes Test match with a rib injury.

Overton struggled with a hairline fracture during the third Test in Perth and although the Somerset player was able to complete the game, the 23-year-old will sit out the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

Mason Crane has been tipped to replace Overton, while Tom Curran and Mark Wood are also in contention to come into the team.

Australia will be without Mitchell Starc for the penultimate game of the five-match series after sustaining a bruised heel, an injury which has left him on crutches in the past few days.

Starc's place in Steven Smith's team will be taken by Jackson Bird, who will be making his first Test appearance in a year.

Last week, Australia reclaimed The Ashes by winning the third Test by an innings and 41 runs.
