The Badminton World Federation confirm that eight female Olympians will face charges of "conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport".

The Badminton World Federation have charged eight female Olympians following suggestions that they attempted to deliberately lose matches during the women's doubles event at the London Games yesterday.

Chinese duo Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang lost 21-14 21-11 to South Korea's Jung Kyung-eun and Kim Ha-na, amid suggestions that both pairs tried to lose in order to avoid playing the other Chinese seeds in the next round.

Ha Jung-eun and Kim Min-jung - also representing South Korea - then beat Indonesia's Meiliana Jauhari and Greysia Polii in similarly suspicious circumstances.

A statement from the BWF said that all eight women would face charges of "conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport".

A disciplinary hearing will take place later today.
