Fourth seed Kei Nishikori continues his fine form with a 6-4 6-4 victory over David Goffin in the Rogers Cup third round.

Kei Nishikori has earned a spot in the Rogers Cup quarter-finals after beating David Goffin 6-4 6-4 in Montreal.

It was an impressive display from Nishikori, who displayed his good form to the Canadian crowd in the early stages and made the first breakthrough in just the third game.

Goffin competed well to stay in touch during the opener, but the 13th seed was unable to prevent Nishikori from surviving break point before converting set point at the third attempt.

The US Open finalist, who was victorious in Washington last week, was caused more problems as the match progressed and both men survived nervy moments on serve early in the second.

However, it was the Belgian who slipped up first as Nishikori capitalised on a couple of errors to break for the second time in the match in the seventh game.

Goffin was powerless to stop his in-form rival, and fourth seed Nishikori secured the win with his second match point to set up a meeting with Rafael Nadal, who eased past Mikhail Youzhny earlier in the evening.
