An eye problem forces Novak Djokovic to retire from his Dubai Tennis Championships quarter-final clash, which brings an end to his long run of Tour final appearances.

World number one Novak Djokovic was forced to retire from his Dubai Tennis Championships quarter-final against Feliciano Lopez earlier today.

Twenty-four hours after he had registered the 700th win of his career, it appeared that Djokovic was troubled by an eye problem.

The Serb had lost the first set 6-3 when he decided that he could no longer continue, handing the tie to his Spanish opponent.

It means that Djokovic's run of having reached 17 consecutive Tour finals has come to an end.

Lopez will now take on Marcos Baghdatis for a place in the final.
