Richard Gasquet has begun his Shanghai Masters campaign with a win after beating Gilles Muller 7-6[4] 6-2 in the first round in China.
The Frenchman was taken to a tie-break against his opponent in the first set with neither player able to create a break point in normal play.
Gasquet upped his game in the tie-break by immediately breaking serve and maintaining his lead to take the set 7-4.
The second set was more comfortable for the three-time Grand Slam semi-finalist as he battled to break point to go 2-1 up before breaking again to take a 4-1 lead.
Muller struggled to match his opponent as he relinquished the set with just two games on the board.
