British number four Dan Evans reaches the second round of the Citi Open with a routine win over Benjamin Becker.

Dan Evans has progressed through to the second round of the Citi Open in Washington after beating Benjamin Becker.

Last week, the British number four dropped out of the Davis Cup squad to face Serbia, with captain Leon Smith citing a shoulder problem, but the 26-year-old showed no ill effects as he eased past the experienced German.

The opening five games went with serve but from 3-2 up in the opening set, Evans dominated and after breaking twice to win the first set he did the same in the second to wrap up a 6-2 6-1 victory in under 50 minutes.

Evans will now face 12th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the last 32.
