Britain's Aljaz Bedene overcomes Gerald Melzer in four sets to reach the second round of the French Open.

Britain's Aljaz Bedene grabbed a spot in the second round of the French Open with a four-set win over Gerald Melzer on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, who has never before reached this stage of the Grand Slam in Paris, earned a 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory.

It was a poor start for the Brit as he was broken instantly in the first set, and despite breaking back to level 2-2 on games, Melzer broke again to take the lead.

Bedene bounced back in the second set as he went an early break up and maintained his dominance for the rest of the match as he won the second, third and fourth sets.

It took 36 minutes for Bedene to wrap up the fourth, joining fellow Brits Kyle Edmund and Heather Watson in the next phase of the tournament.
