Roger Federer is through to the semi-finals of the Australian Open with a straight-sets win over Tomas Berdych.

Roger Federer has booked his place in the semi-finals of the Australian Open with a straight-sets win over Tomas Berdych.

The defending champion did not have it all his own way in Melbourne, but the 36-year-old was still able to register a 7-6 6-3 6-4 win on Wednesday night.

During the opening stages of the contest, Berdych was the better player and it appeared that the Czech would move into a one-set lead when establishing a 5-2 advantage.

However, Berdych squandered two set points and after Federer stormed back to take a tie-break 7-1, the Swiss remained in the ascendancy for the remainder of the match.

Three breaks of serve were recorded during the second and third sets, with victory being wrapped up in just two hours and 14 minutes.

Federer will now meet Chung Hyeon, who backed up his wins over Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic with a straight-sets success over Tennys Sandgren.
