Briton Ian Walker guides Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing to victory in the nine-month Volvo Ocean Race.

Briton Ian Walker has guided Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing to victory in the Volvo Ocean Race.

Walker skippered the Emirates team to an overall win after they finished fifth in the ninth leg of the 38,739-nautical mile race, which lasted nine months.

The two-time Olympic silver medallist became the first British skipper to take home the trophy in his third round-the-world race.

All but one of the seven teams won at least one stage after Team Alvimedica claimed victory in the final leg.
