Wolverhampton Wanderers reveal that their number one jersey has been retired ahead of the new campaign in a show of respect to Carl Ikeme.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have revealed that none of their first-team goalkeepers have been handed the number one jersey ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Carl Ikeme had been the holder of the shirt before being diagnosed with leukaemia before the start of last season, and the long-serving Wolves stopper has now retired from professional football.

Rui Patricio has arrived at Molineux this summer, and it had been expected that the Portugal international would take Ikeme's shirt, but the club and Patricio have agreed to leave the number vacant.

The former Sporting Lisbon representative will instead wear number 11, with John Ruddy and Will Norris taking the number 21 and 31 jerseys respectively.

Wolves begin the new campaign with a home fixture against Everton on Saturday evening.
