Former Sunderland winger Adam Johnson launches a second appeal against his child sex conviction.

Former Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has launched a fresh appeal against his conviction for sex acts with an underage girl.

The 29-year-old was sentenced to six years in prison last March after he was found to have kissed and sexually touched a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

A first appeal against the conviction failed last year but according to Johnson's family, a date of February 28 has now been set for a new appeal.

Johnson's sister Faye wrote on Twitter: "Pleased that we now have a date for Adam's appeal against conviction and sentence. I hope that justice can finally be done for my brother."

Johnson is currently incarcerated at Moorland Prison in South Yorkshire.
