Atletico Madrid will have to wait until the opening game of next season to lift the La Liga title, a report suggests.

Atletico Madrid have been denied the opportunity to lift the La Liga trophy after the chairman of the Spanish Football Association was away travelling, according to reports.

Los Rojiblancos secured the league crown with a 1-1 draw against Barcelona at the Camp Nou earlier today, celebrating the triumph in front of their 480 travelling supporters.

However, Atletico were not officially handed the title because Angel Maria Villar was allegedly attending business elsewhere, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.

Atletico will now reportedly have to wait until the first game of next season to lift the trophy.
