Lewis Hamilton says that it would be huge for Mercedes if they finished second in the 2013 Formula 1 constructors' championship.

Lewis Hamilton has said that it would be "huge" for Mercedes to finish second in the Formula 1 constructors' championship.

Although Hamilton and the team are a long way short of Red Bull at the top, Mercedes have a 15-point lead over Ferrari ahead of this weekend's final race in Brazil.

"It will be such a good feeling if we can finish ahead of Ferrari, that would be huge for the team, and that's what we are working towards," Hamilton told PA.

"To be the second best over the whole season compared to Red Bull, to leapfrog Ferrari, McLaren and Lotus (Mercedes were fifth last year) would be great for the guys back at the factory."

Hamilton, 28, moved to Mercedes from McLaren at the end of last season and despite some strong performances in qualifying this year, his car has not been as strong in the race.

He cannot catch second-placed Fernando Alonso in the drivers' rankings but will want to hold off the challenge of Mark Webber, who is six points behind, in Brazil to finish third for the season.
