Jules Bianchi's father says Marussia driver is critical

The father of Marussia driver Jules Bianchi tells the French media that his son is undergoing surgery for head trauma and is in a critical condition.

Jules Bianchi's father has told French television that his son is in a critical condition following his crash at the Japanese Grand Prix this morning.

The Marussia driver collided with a recovery vehicle which was removing Adrian Sutil's Sauber from the side of the track after the German had run wide in wet conditions.

According to France 3 television, the 25-year-old's father has said that the driver is undergoing surgery for head trauma, and that he is in a critical condition.

The FIA confirmed that the Frenchman was unconscious while being transferred to a nearby hospital.
