Sunderland manager David Moyes says that he was pleased with his side's performance as they edged past Queens Park Rangers in the EFL Cup.

Sunderland manager David Moyes has said that his side deserved to progress in the EFL Cup after they registered a 2-1 win away at Queens Park Rangers.

With 30 minutes remaining, Sunderland fell behind after Sandro opened the scoring before two Paddy McNair efforts ensured that the Black Cats booked their place in the last 16 of the competition.

The 53-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "We played some good stuff and I'm just glad we got through as it's always a tough game coming here.

"I thought we did some good things, especially in the second half, and I didn't think we deserved to go a goal down when we did.

"We just lacked the experienced forward players who maybe could have finished the game off earlier, but some of our play was quite good."

The win for Moyes was just his second in seven matches since replacing Sam Allardyce at the start of the season.
