Poyet: 'Spurs' poor form is normal'

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gus Poyet says that the North London outfit's poor form at the beginning of the season is 'normal'.

Former midfielder Gus Poyet has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur should not be singled out after a poor start to the season.

After a run of two wins from eight matches in all competitions, Mauricio Pochettino and his players have received widespread criticism, while the Argentine has openly claimed that some of his squad have 'different agendas'.

However, Poyet feels that too much is being made of the situation, pointing to other clubs in Europe who remain below their peak.

The Uruguayan told talkSPORT: "I think it's normal. They got to the Champions League final last year and were close to the biggest trophy

"Everybody was looking at Tottenham during the summer expecting those big players to come because of the previous two transfer windows not signing any players, and as a consequence the team didn't start very well, but it's happening everywhere.

"I like to watch football not only in England, but in Spain and France too, and Paris Saint-Germain are not great – in the league they've lost two games already!

"The same is happening for Real Madrid and Barcelona, and of course at Manchester United."

Poyet contributed 18 goals from 82 appearances in the Premier League for Spurs between 2001 and 2004.
