Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher says that VAR was used correctly to rule out Son Heung-min's goal for Tottenham Hotspur against Swansea City.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has defended the use of VAR after Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min had a goal disallowed against Swansea City.

During the first half of the FA Cup quarter-final tie at the Liberty Stadium, Son collected a high through-ball before volleying into the net, but the assistant adjudged the South Korean international to be marginally offside.

Replays proved to be inconclusive and it could have been perceived that Son was level with the last defender, and boss Mauricio Pochettino acknowledged that he had been left unhappy with the decision.

However, Gallagher has claimed that the goal - which came when Spurs held a 1-0 advantage - was correctly disallowed.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "It would have been disallowed without VAR anyway. The assistant flagged offside and it was offside.

"VAR checked and gave it offside. Whichever way you look at it, the goal was correctly disallowed."

Spurs went on to record a 3-0 victory to move through to the last four of the competition.
