Jamie Redknapp believes that Tottenham Hotspur were left "overawed" when they took on Monaco at Wembley in the Champions League, which contributed to their 2-1 defeat.

Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were left "overawed" when they took on AS Monaco at Wembley in the Champions League.

Spurs are playing their European games at England's national stadium while their new ground is being built.

However, they lost their first "home" game at Wembley on Wednesday, falling to a 2-1 defeat against the Ligue 1 outfit.

Former Spurs midfielder Redknapp told Sky Sports News: "As we saw in their defeat to Monaco, playing their Champions League games at Wembley is another factor that could unsettle the team.

"Mauricio Pochettino played down those concerns, but that's always going to be difficult for the team because it's like another away game.

"People might not understand this, but as a player, there's a real familiarity with playing at your home ground... at Wembley, Tottenham looked overawed by the whole situation."

Spurs return to White Hart Lane on Sunday as they host Sunderland in the Premier League.
