Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi takes over from sporting director Leonardo when it comes to contract talks for Kylian Mbappe, according to a report.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has reportedly taken over from the French club's sporting director Leonardo when it comes to contract talks for Kylian Mbappe.

The France international has still not signed a new deal in Paris, meaning that, as it stands, he would be free to walk away from the Ligue 1 giants next June.

Real Madrid are believed to be preparing to step up their interest in the World Cup winner, but Los Blancos could struggle to afford him this summer due to their financial problems.

According to L'Equipe, Al-Khelaifi has taken over from Leonardo in an attempt to sign the 22-year-old to a new contract.

The report claims that the PSG president has a strong relationship with Mbappe's family and is hopeful of convincing the attacker to sign an extension.

The Frenchman, who missed the decisive penalty in his country's Euro 2020 last-16 loss to Switzerland on Monday night, has scored 132 goals and registered 61 assists in 171 outings for Les Parisiens.
