Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior could miss the next two months of the season with the injury that he picked up against Ajax on Tuesday night.

Real Madrid have confirmed that Vinicius Junior is facing an extended period on the sidelines after suffering a "ligament tear of the tibiofibular joint" in Tuesday's Champions League clash with Ajax.

Vinicius picked up the injury in the first half of his team's Champions League last-16 second leg with Ajax, which Los Blancos lost 4-1 to exit the competition in incredible fashion.

The 18-year-old has been an ever-present for the Spanish giants in recent weeks, but various reports have claimed that he will miss the next two months with the injury.

"Following the tests carried out today on our player, Vinicius Jr, by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a ligament tear of the tibiofibular joint of the right leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed," read a statement on Madrid's official website.

Vinicius has scored seven times and registered 13 assists in 33 appearances for Madrid this season.

Santiago Solari's side have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions, which has seen them exit the Copa del Rey and Champions League, in addition to falling 12 points off leaders Barcelona in La Liga.
