Mesut Ozil’s goal puts him top of an elite list

Arsenal man is now the leading German scorer in the Premier League.

Mesut Ozil became the highest German scorer in the Premier League when he netted in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Leicester on Monday.

Ozil brought his side level just before the break to score his 30th goal in a Gunners shirt.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at other Germans to score in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klinsmann – 29

Not only did Klinsmann score 29 goals for Tottenham in two spells in the mid-1990s, he also got a celebration named after him after he poked fun at his reputation for diving. He scored 20 goals in 41 appearances in 1994-95 in a Spurs side that entertained and then returned on loan for the second half of the 1997-98 campaign, notching nine in 15 games in a team that narrowly avoided the drop.

Uwe Rosler – 29

Rosler is one of the cult strikers of the early Premier League era for his goals at Manchester City. Rosler, who then had a full head of hair, scored 15 of his goals in the 1994-95 campaign and adding nine the following season. He also featured for Southampton in the Premier League but did not find the net at the Dell.

Robert Huth – 21

Huth’s place on this list is testament to his longevity and aerial ability in the opposition box. The centre-half has found the net for three different clubs – Middlesbrough, Stoke and Leicester – across an 11-year period. The 34-year-old started at Chelsea but never got on the scoresheet in the league at Stamford Bridge.

Lukas Podolski – 19

The Poland-born Germany international scored 19 goals in 60 appearances over the course of three seasons for Arsenal following an £11million move from Cologne in 2012. His first season was his best at the Emirates, scoring 11 times.

Michael Ballack – 17

Ballack was one of the leading names in world football when he came to Chelsea in 2006 and he enjoyed a trophy-laden four years at Stamford Bridge. He found the net 17 times in 105 appearances, including four in the 2009-10 season when Chelsea won the Premier League.
