England defender John Stones promises fans to expect "a great occasion" in the Three Lions' two friendlies at Wembley over the next week.

England defender John Stones has promised fans to expect a "great occasion" when the Three Lions welcome Germany and Brazil to Wembley for friendly games over the next week.

Having already sealed their place at next year's World Cup, England will play against the current world champions and five-time winners Brazil as preparation for the tournament in Russia.

Gareth Southgate's side has come under fire for the manner of their play in recent months, however, and a section of the support threw paper airplanes during the lifeless 1-0 win over Slovenia at Wembley last month.

"It's going to be great atmosphere for the fans," Stones told reporters today. "We have to go out there and show what we can do.

"The players that we've got and with the hunger we have, it will be a great occasion.

"You always want to play with the best and play against the best, to test yourself at your maximum capability. It always helps to have a bit of insight into how those players work. Bringing two world-class teams to Wembley is going to be great for the fans and a great opportunity for the players.

"We've done our research on Germany but we don't want to overanalyse. It's about working hard on the training pitch and that's where the valuable time is spent. Whoever we come up against, we can go into the game knowing that we trained for it."

Southgate will be without the services of a number of key players, including Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Raheem Sterling, Harry Winks and Jordan Henderson, for the two fixtures.
