Football players and fans are being offered the chance to wear rainbow laces.

Norwich joint-major shareholder Delia Smith is cooking up a special 'Rainbow Laces Cake' to help show support for Stonewall's campaign for LGBT+ inclusion in sport.

Almost a decade since releasing her last best-selling book, Smith is teaming up with Aviva, the Norfolk club's community partner, to add a bit of colour to her classic sponge cake recipe.

Seven rainbow-coloured layers are separated by a buttercream filling and covered with white buttercream icing. The special-edition cake is designed to coincide with Stonewall's 2018 campaign, which will see thousands of football players and fans wear rainbow laces.

Slices of Smith's 'Rainbow Laces Cake' will be given to supporters outside the Aviva Community Stand at Carrow Road ahead of Norwich's Sky Bet Championship match against Rotherham on December 1.

Some 5,000 pairs of Rainbow Laces will also be distributed by Aviva to fans, while Norwich will use rainbow corner flags for the game and are offering first-team players the opportunity to wear the laces on matchday.

Smith said: "Aviva and Norwich City are very proud to be involved with the Rainbow Laces campaign for this year.

"I'm looking forward to seeing our supporters joining in, whether that's by baking their very own Rainbow Cake, or by wearing their Rainbow Laces at our home match against Rotherham."

Director of sport for Stonewall Kirsty Clarke said: "It's great to see this fantastic show of support from Aviva, one of the founding members of our 'TeamPride', as well as Delia Smith and Norwich City.

"We are extremely excited by this year's Rainbow Laces campaign, which will be the biggest collective show of support yet for LGBT people in sport."
