How Liverpool could line up against Manchester United

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up against Manchester United as the history-chasing league leaders look to continue their 100% start at Old Trafford.

Liverpool travel to Old Trafford on Sunday knowing that they have the opportunity to equal two significant records at the home of their greatest rivals Manchester United.

A first win at Old Trafford since March 2014 would make it 18 top-flight victories in a row - matching Manchester City's all-time mark - while also joining Chelsea's class of 2005-06 as the only teams to have won their opening nine games of a Premier League season.

Rarely will Liverpool have arrived at an away game against United as such big favourites either, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side already 15 points behind Jurgen Klopp's pacesetters after only eight games of the season.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the visitors could line up as they chase history and bid to continue their 100% start to the campaign.

In stark contrast to their injury-riddled opponents, Liverpool are set to have only good news on that front despite some significant names still classed as doubts.

Goalkeeper Alisson has not featured since suffering a calf injury on the opening day of the season, but he returned to training before the international break and is now expected to be ready to make his comeback in place of Adrian.

In front of him, Joel Matip has also declared himself fit for this match after missing the past two games and he should celebrate his new contract with an immediate return to the starting lineup.

A minor doubt lingers over Mohamed Salah after he was forced off against Leicester City following a poor Hamza Choudhury tackle, but the Egyptian winger is expected to start alongside fellow in-form attackers Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Aside from fitness concerns, Klopp's major decision comes in midfield, where Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner and Jordan Henderson have all put forward strong claims for a regular starting role either side of Fabinho.

Klopp has tended to err on the side of experience in big games and so therefore could go with Henderson and Milner, although it would certainly not be a surprise to see Wijnaldum start either, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita provide further options.

Xherdan Shaqiri, who scored twice against United last season, could also be in contention after a calf injury, leaving Nathaniel Clyne as the only guaranteed absentee.
