Luke Shaw says that it is "great" to have Bastian Schweinsteiger back in training following a two-month exile.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has admitted that it is "great" to have Bastian Schweinsteiger back training with the first team.

The German World Cup winner was banished from the squad when Jose Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal's successor in the summer.

In September, the midfielder was written off as a £6.7m asset in the club's annual financial results, with the 32-year-old being described as "a player no longer considered to be a member of the first team playing squad".

However, this morning, United released pictures of Schweinsteiger training with the first-team squad ahead of Thursday's Europa League match against Fenerbahce in Turkey.

After being exiled by Mourinho, Schweinsteiger insisted that he would not play for another European club, but AC Milan are reportedly considering a January swoop for the midfielder.

When asked about Schweinsteiger's return to training, Shaw told reporters: "It's great to see him back. We found out the news a couple of days ago and it's so great to have him back. He's a big influence in the dressing room and obviously on the pitch, especially for the young players like myself.

"It's a great boost for us, the experience and the quality that he brings. The quality he possesses is a boost for our team and I'm so glad to have him back."

The former Germany international joined United from Bayern Munich in 2015 during Van Gaal's spell in charge.
