Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has brought an end to his war of words with Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte, declaring the feud "over".

The two high-profile bosses have had a tense relationship since Conte's arrival in English football, and their rivalry escalated earlier this month as the pair traded insults.

Conte is the latest in a long line of rival managers with whom Mourinho has clashed, but the Portuguese insists that he does not enjoy the conflict with his direct rivals.

"I don't enjoy (them). When I start (them) I take the responsibilities of that and I've started (them) many times," Mourinho told reporters.

"When I don't start it's quite funny for me to see other people on the other side acting like victims when they're not the victims. But, really, I don't enjoy. That's why for me (the row with Conte) is over.

"Sometimes it's my fault; sometimes it's other managers' fault. In my case, when I think it's my fault and I should behave in a different way, I'm the first one to apologise, like I did with (Claudio) Ranieri when I had the chance. That's when our relations went from bad to good and from good to very good because I was man enough to apologise."

Mourinho and Conte are next due to come face to face when United host Chelsea at Old Trafford on February 25.
