Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho confirms that defender Antonio Valencia is to undergo surgery on a broken arm.

Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia is facing a spell on the sidelines after breaking his arm during the midweek Manchester derby.

The 31-year-old had been an ever-present for Jose Mourinho's side in the league but is out of the squad for today's encounter with Burnley as he undergoes surgery.

"Antonio is having surgery today," Mourinho confirmed prior to the match. "He has a fracture in his arm.

"The problem for us is having injuries all in the same area with [Eric] Bailly, [Chris] Smalling and Valencia. They were the three players that start almost every match in the Premier League and now we have lost all three in the same period.

"But that's football and it's an opportunity for others to play. We trust [Matteo] Darmian and we trust Marcos Rojo to have a positive influence."
