Romelu Lukaku's record vs. Arsenal

Ahead of Manchester United's Premier League clash with Arsenal this weekend, Sports Mole looks at Romelu Lukaku's past record against the Gunners.

It is somewhat fitting that Arsenal's last match against one of the fellow top six this season sees them face Manchester United as Arsene Wenger prepares for one final trip to Old Trafford as Gunners boss.

It has been the defining rivalry of the Premier League era and Wenger's reign at the club, and he will be hoping for one final triumph against the foes with whom he has tussled so often in the past.

United still have a job to do this season, though, and while Arsenal are in a similar position to the Red Devils last year - aiming for Europa League glory ahead of a place in the top four - second place is still United's to win.

One man who could help them take a big step towards their best finish since the retirement of Wenger's oldest adversary Sir Alex Ferguson is United striker Romelu Lukaku, who has scored six goals in his last 10 games for the club but has often been criticised for failing to turn up in the biggest games.

Here, Sports Mole looks at the Belgian's past record against the Gunners.

Lukaku record vs. Arsenal

Games against Arsenal have not proved particularly fruitful for Lukaku in the past, with eight defeats and just three wins from his 13 previous meetings across all competitions - including 12 in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has come up against the Gunners for Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Everton and Manchester United in the past, but all three of his goals and assists came in the blue of Everton.

Lukaku's most memorable performance against Wenger's side came in the 2013-14 campaign when he registered a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win at Goodison Park, and he actually ended that season with two goals and two assists from his three meetings with Arsenal having also scored in an FA Cup quarter-final defeat.

The Belgian also scored in his final game against Arsenal for Everton - getting his side's only goal of the game in a 3-1 defeat on the last day of last season - but he drew a blank when United won by the same scoreline at the Emirates Stadium earlier this campaign.

The reverse fixture in December did provide Lukaku with only his third ever victory against Arsenal, though, having lost four of his previous five meetings with them as an Everton player.
