Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says that the team need to show "aggression and intensity" when they play Liverpool in their Europa League return leg.

Juan Mata has called on his Manchester United teammates to show "aggression and intensity" when they play Liverpool in the second leg of their Europa League tie next week.

The Red Devils have a 2-0 deficit from the first leg and will need to score at least three goals at Old Trafford if they are to reach the quarter-finals.

Prior to next Thursday's European match, United will take on West Ham United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on home turf.

"We need to keep going and move on," Mata told MUTV. "In three days we have another massive game for us, the chance to play in a semi-final and a chance to win a title.

"The FA Cup is very special for all of us and it is against a very good team like West Ham. We need to recover as soon as possible and then focus just on the FA Cup. Then, after the weekend, we can look at the Europa League again.

"It was not a good performance and not a good result obviously, but we need to move on, we need to win on Sunday. And then we come back in this Europa League competition, and try to do what they did to us, which is create the atmosphere and play with aggression and intensity. We have to do that next Thursday."

United have lost their last two games in all competitions.
