Given Wayne Rooney's struggles in recent seasons, it is perhaps easy to forget just how valuable a player he has been for Manchester United over the past decade and more.

Arriving at Old Trafford in 2004 as the most expensive teenager in world football, Rooney has since surpassed the likes of George Best, Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton to top the club's all-time goalscoring charts with 253 in 559 games across all competitions.

Only Alan Shearer has scored more Premier League goals since the competition's inception, and no player has scored more for a single team than the 183 Rooney has notched for United.

A former PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year and a two-time PFA Young Player of the Year and Fans' Player of the Year, Rooney has won every honour there is to win in English club football during his time at Old Trafford.

That includes five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, three League Cups, the Europa League and the 2008 Champions League, in addition to reaching two more Champions League finals in 2009 and 2011.

The England and United captain has found himself as the figure of some ridicule towards the latter stages of his career, but there is no doubt that he has made an indelible mark on the club and will forever be regarded amongst United's greatest players.
