There was no shortage of prolific English strikers in the early years of the Premier League, but few were more coveted than Andy Cole following a spell at Newcastle United which saw him score 68 goals in just 84 games.

Such form earned him a British record transfer to Manchester United in 1995, and in his first half-season with the Red Devils he became the first player to score five goals in a single Premier League game.

It was a sign of things to come for the England international, who went on to score 121 goals in 275 games for United, including 93 in 195 Premier League outings.

Having won the Premier League title in his first two full seasons at the club, Cole then formed a deadly partnership with Dwight Yorke to help fire United to the 1999 treble.

Cole went on to win five Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League at Old Trafford before moving on to Blackburn Rovers in 2001.
