The Manchester traffic had caused problems ahead of the Red Devils' previous Champions League home games.

Jose Mourinho once again opted against using the team bus for the journey to Old Trafford on a Champions League night, but made sure his team arrived in plenty of time for Tuesday's clash with Young Boys.

The Portuguese revealed he made a two-minute car journey to get to the stadium, having walked there disguised under a hoodie for last month's meeting with Juventus.

UEFA fined the club 15,000 euros (around £13,000) for their late arrival and the subsequent delayed kick-off of the match against Valencia in October.

On that day the United team bus did not arrive at the stadium until 7.15pm due to traffic, which led to the kick-off being moved to 8.05pm to allow the players to warm-up sufficiently.

Those issues reappeared later that month, with Juventus arriving 65 minutes before kick-off and United getting to Old Trafford just 50 minutes prior to play getting under way.

But on Tuesday night the club were taking no chances and arrived at the stadium in plenty of time at 6.30pm after Mourinho revealed they had decided to change hotels so they were not travelling from Manchester City centre.

The manager, though, said the bus journey was still too long.

He told BT Sport: "I did not take the risk, I came in the car. It took me two minutes, for the boys 25, which is much much better than before. But still we can improve because for me it was two minutes."
