The Frenchman has put the Manchester club's improvement down to a more attacking style.

Anthony Martial believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tactics are "easier" for Manchester United players to understand than those of Jose Mourinho.

Solskjaer has overseen a dramatic change in fortunes for United since replacing Mourinho in December, and will be looking for his 11th victory in 12 games when Paris St Germain visit Old Trafford in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

"We have got a coach who has different intentions and we are trying to do what (Solskjaer) asks," he said. "Perhaps it is easier to play this style of football and not the style of football (Mourinho) asked."

And the 23-year-old added that his own specific instructions have also changed.

"He is asking me to attack more," Martial said. "That is my job after all. To make the difference, to be more decisive. Things are working out well for the other attackers and I hope we can continue to be as effective."

Martial had been linked with a move away from the club while Mourinho was in charge but signed a new five-year deal last month and appears to be one of the players most enjoying the change in management.

"When our new coach came in he had a lot of confidence, a lot of determination, that was really helpful," he said. "We are trying to pay him back in kind and things are working out well at the moment. We hope they will tomorrow."

Solskjaer has made himself the favourite to land the Old Trafford role full-time, a situation which could become clearer over the next two weeks as United face high-profile matches with Chelsea and Liverpool in the FA Cup and Premier League respectively.

"Obviously things are going really well, we are really happy to have him here and we hope we can continue but the final decision isn't with us," Martial said.

But for now all the focus is on PSG – a tie in which United's hopes have been helped by injuries to key forwards Neymar and Edinson Cavani for the visitors.

"I don't think we are necessarily favourites," Martial said. "They have a few absentees and that should be to our advantage but they have very good players to come in."
