Shaun Goater's trophy cabinet may not compare to those of the current crop, but in terms of popularity amongst supporters the striker is right up there with any other player in the club's history.

Arriving from Bristol City in 1998, Goater experienced arguably the lowest point in Man City's history when they were relegated to the third tier for the first time ever just months after he had joined the club.

However, his 21 goals fired them straight back into Division One, before 29 the following season saw City clinch back-to-back promotions and return to the Premier League.

The Bermudan's time in the top flight lasted just one season as City again suffered relegation, although he struck 32 times to see them bounce back the following year - the fourth season in a row he had finished top of the club's scoring charts.

First-team opportunities were harder to come by in his final year at Maine Road, but he still managed to score his 100th goal for the club against local rivals Manchester United and left in 2003 having struck 103 times in 212 appearances.
