How Liverpool could line up against Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Sunday's Premier League showdown with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Liverpool will be looking for an instant return to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's side saw their 100% start to the season ended by bitter rivals Manchester United last weekend, a result which also saw their winning streak in the top flight halted at 17 games.

The Reds still go into this game sitting six points clear at the top of the table, though, and bounced back from their under-par Old Trafford display by cruising to a 4-1 victory over Genk in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how they could line up for Sunday's contest.

Liverpool were without defensive duo Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold for the trip to Belgium in midweek, although the latter has recovered from his illness and is expected to return for Tottenham's visit this weekend.

Matip's fitness is more doubtful, with the centre-back set for a late fitness test having suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee problem following last weekend's game against Manchester United.

Dejan Lovren was preferred alongside Virgil van Dijk against Genk, with Joe Gomez behind James Milner in the right-back pecking order too, but the young Englishman could start this one if Matip does not make it in time.

Mohamed Salah is now back from his brief absence and will start in an unchanged front three, with Klopp's other major decision coming in midfield.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain seized his starting opportunity in midweek with two very well-taken goals and that may be enough to earn him a place in this weekend's team too, although as ever there is plenty of competition for those three spots.

Captain Jordan Henderson's experience could also be called upon in a match against a fellow 'big-six' side, while Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, Milner and Adam Lallana are also pushing for a starting role.

Xherdan Shaqiri is still sidelined by a calf problem, though, while Nathaniel Clyne is a long-term absentee.
