How Liverpool could line up against Everton

Sports Mole looks at how league leaders Liverpool could line up for Wednesday's Merseyside derby against Everton as Alisson Becker misses out through suspension.

History beckons for Liverpool in the 285th Merseyside derby on Wednesday night as they welcome Everton to Anfield looking to extend their unbeaten league run to a club-record 32nd game.

Jurgen Klopp's side have won 13 of their 14 games this season to build an eight-point lead at the top of the table, while they have also won their last 14 top-flight outings in front of their own fans.

The Reds will be heavy favourites to extend that streak against an Everton side languishing two points above the relegation zone and without a win at Anfield for more than 20 years.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for the derby.

Alisson's red card against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend means that Adrian will come back into the starting lineup for this match.

The back-up shot-stopper is the only one of Liverpool's goalkeepers to keep a clean sheet this season, but he was at fault for Brighton's goal just seconds after coming off the bench and almost gifted them an equaliser too, so he will hope for a more settled night on Wednesday.

There should at least be a settled back four in front of him, with Dejan Lovren again expected to partner Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence in the continued absence of Joel Matip.

Fabinho remains sidelined with an ankle problem, and Klopp called upon Jordan Henderson to play in the deeper role against Brighton. The skipper is expected to do so again, although the midfield trio does appear to be the most prone to rotation heading into a busy month.

Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana are all capable of playing in any of the three midfield positions too, while Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita are both now fit again and provide Klopp with further options.

There will no doubt be occasions where Klopp chooses to rest one of his front three throughout the festive schedule, but it would be a surprise if that came in the Merseyside derby, particularly after Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah came off early at the weekend.
