Phil Neville tells Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius to 'keep his mouth shut' after hitting back at his critics.

Former Manchester United and Everton player Phil Neville has told Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius that he should 'keep his mouth shut' after criticising pundits.

The German shot-stopper hit back at Gary Neville after he came under fire for his performance in the Reds' 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth.

Karius has attracted further criticism for failing to keep out Dimitri Payet's free kick in Sunday's 2-2 draw with West Ham United at Anfield.

After the match while on BBC's Match of the Day 2, Neville defended his brother and advised Karius to stay focused on matters on the pitch.

"My criticism is not necessarily the mistakes, it's more the article he did in midweek," said Neville. "When you're a young player and you're making mistakes or you're breaking into the team, you do your training, you do your practice, work as hard as you possibly can, you play on a Saturday and you say nothing to nobody.

"Until you've got a couple of seasons under your belt, then you can come out shouting your mouth off and having a go at pundits. That's been the biggest mistake he's made for me. Keep your mouth shut, do your job, go home, have your tea and play football!"

Karius replaced Simon Mignolet as number one when he arrived at the club from Mainz 05 in the summer.
