How Liverpool could line up against Atletico Madrid

Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up for Wednesday night's must-win Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid, with Jordan Henderson expected to return.

Liverpool will be looking to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit when they welcome Atletico Madrid to Anfield for the return leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday night.

The reigning European champions failed to have a single shot on target at the Wanda Metropolitano last month but have been in imperious form in front of their own fans this season, whereas Atletico have won just one of their last 13 away games.

Liverpool returned to winning ways at the weekend to edge ever closer to a first league title in 30 years, but know that victory is a necessity on Wednesday if they are to keep fighting on two fronts this season.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp's side could line up for the contest.

Doubtful: Jordan Henderson (hamstring), Andrew Robertson (knock)

Liverpool will again be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker for this match after the Brazilian picked up a slight muscle strain in training, keeping him out of the weekend win over Bournemouth in addition to this match.

Klopp hinted that Alisson could be sidelined until after the international break, but there is better news elsewhere with Jordan Henderson and Andrew Robertson both expected to recover in time for Wednesday's showdown.

Robertson was a surprise exclusion at the weekend having picked up a slight injury problem in training, while Henderson has missed the last four games since limping off in the first leg of this tie with a hamstring injury.

The skipper is now back in training and is likely to go straight back into the starting lineup if deemed fit enough, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner the players expected to make way for the fit-again duo.

It could, therefore, be a full-strength side with the exception of Alisson, with Adrian in goal the only change from the team which started the first leg last month.

Liverpool's attackers will be hoping for more joy this time around, and both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah got back on the scoresheet at the weekend, the latter marking his 100th Premier League appearance for the club with his 70th goal.

Indeed, Salah is now the first Liverpool player to score 20 goals in all competitions for three successive seasons since Michael Owen, who managed it from 2000 to 2003.

The third member of that front three, Roberto Firmino, will resume his search for a first Anfield goal of the campaign.
