Fernando Santos: 'Greece at World Cup on merit'

Fernando Santos calls on his Greece side to show the qualities that got them to the World Cup when they face Ivory Coast.

Greece coach Fernando Santos has insisted that his team deserve to be at the World Cup and will be looking for victory against Ivory Coast to try to sneak a second-round berth.

They face the Africans knowing that their chances are slim and to reach the knockout phase the 2004 European champions will need to find their scoring touch, but Santos still believes that his charges can show what they are made of.

He told reporters: "We have to show the qualities that got us here.

"The Ivory Coast is a strong team with good players. But we are strong too and we got here on merit. Talk of anything else is just a distraction."

Greece did reach the last 16 of Euro 2012 after a dramatic victory over Russia in the final group game.
