According to new research, conducted by online travel agent Travel Republic, almost half of UK football fans base their summer travel plans around the World Cup, because jetting off and just hoping you'll be able to watch the games abroad isn't quite enough for many.
Football is taken very seriously in the UK so it seems, with almost a third of fans admitting to delaying their holidays in a bid to watch the football; and for those not going on holiday, almost 50% have said they have pulled a sickie at work just to watch an important match. The research also uncovered that 45% of people have used most of their annual leave to stay at home and watch the football.
Unfortunately for many, the World Cup doesn't just affect those who enjoy it, a third of non-football fans have had to make room in their suitcases in order to accommodate football paraphernalia, and 50% have even been made to arrive at the pub in advance to bag the best seats in the house on behalf of their football fanatic other half.
31% of Brits choose their holiday locations based on their chances of watching the games, but with the World Cup being a globally celebrated event, wherever you are in the world, you will never be too far away from a bustling bar full of football fans punching the air and yelling the names of numerous players.
