Everton interim boss David Unsworth claims that whoever is in charge of the first team will need time to mould the current players into a winning unit.

David Unsworth has stated that whoever is in charge of Everton will need time to mould the current squad into a winning unit.

The beleaguered Toffees remain in the Premier League's bottom three following a 2-0 defeat at Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Everton are searching for a successor to Ronald Koeman, who was sacked on Monday following the team's poor start to the season despite heavy investment in the summer.

The second half was much better," Toffees interim boss Unsworth told reporters after the loss at the King Power Stadium. "We gave them a two-goal start - in the first half we didn't perform. Our display was much better after the break.

"The best tactics I thought was with a diamond and two strikers. Aaron Lennon did OK in the first half and Kevin Mirallas couldn't get into the game. I wanted to be brave and positive in the first half.

"I went with the best team to try to win. The first half wasn't acceptable, but the second half we didn't get the rewards that our dominance justified. Whoever gets the honour of being Everton boss, including me, needs time with this set of players."

Up next for Everton is a Europa League Group E game away at Lyon on Thursday evening.
